Merit or Mediocracy?

April 18, 2026 | By Risktal Thought Leadership

You go to a coffee shop and fight nail & tooth for your regular barista (Chloe) to make your coffee because you believe she is the best & God’s sent for your coffee craving.

Under this belief, you “refuse” to even give a chance to someone else who would be more qualified and more capable to give you the best coffee of your life! Meanwhile, (Chloe) takes you for granted! Knowing that you won’t question her deliverables or competence or “loyalty!”, she may start to cut corners, maybe pass on a cup that was returned by someone else, opt for cheaper beans etc.

Now, the moral of the story in case you haven’t figured it out yet! Many organizations’ leaders and owners blindly believe in their (Chloe’s) who return that blind trust with deceit or infidelity; leaving them accepting or even cherishing mediocracy while missing out on the opportunities brought by more capable & motivated talent.

So will you go for merit? or mediocracy?
